Discover a great idea
"Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted. Every year, consumers in rich countries waste almost as much food (222 million tonnes)." (FAO, 2011 & UNEP, 2009)
We could start up a community run cafe where we encourage people to reduce their food waste. A juice bar could promote juices that use fruit and veg which people throw out everyday.
1) Save Vegetables
- Sell juices made from veg that have been thrown away - from the local supermarket, from local people in the community, from local restaurants, and from local farmers.
2) Share ideas
- promote recipes and ideas for juices and smoothies that are made of the types of veg people commonly throw away.
3) Raise awareness
- campaign locally to show people ways using what they have, saving on their food bills and reducing their impact on waste.
